The Good Economy Partnership (GEP) is a social advisory firm. Our mission is to build an economy that works for everyone, and clients include VCSEs, investment firms, foundations, trusts, socially-minded businesses and government organisations.

We bring this broad experience and background to our Big Potential clients. The Good Economy Partnership is well positioned to assist VCSEs seeking investment:

- Sarah Forster, founder of GEP, leads a highly experienced team of 5 Consultants who are close to the social investment market;

- We understand the needs of investors as well as the challenges of social enterprises;

- The GEP Consultants have practical, sleeves-rolled-up experience of the challenges facing social enterprises. Going beyond the theoretical, we can provide the extra capacity needed by lean management teams.

This combination of experience enables GEP to present VCSE clients effectively to investors. We go beyond simply seeking to conform to investor-driven requirements, and help clients source the type of finance that is right for them; social finance that is fit for purpose.

We work with progressive and disruptive social enterprises for whom social value creation is an integral part of their business policies and practices. Our investment readiness services are geared around helping clients, who wish to scale for faster growth, to clarify how they will create social value hand-in-hand with commercial success. Our style of working is flexible depending upon the client’s objectives, requirements and capabilities.   We assemble a team with the appropriate mix of skills and work either onsite or remotely.

Business planning:  An effective business plan needs to knit together many different components, including market insights, strategy, product portfolio, target clients, partnerships and resources. We support clients in preparing these different components, with consideration to both short and medium-term time horizons.   Our services include ensuring that business plan materials are also effective sales documents to support raising investment.

Strengthening financial modelling: We guide clients in the development of financial projections that reflect the implementation of their strategy and plan, and inform their fund-raising objectives. We ensure that the financial projections are designed to meet the standards of social impact investors, for example ensuring that cash-flow forecasts have been stress-tested against different scenarios, and that key assumptions are clearly articulated.

Social impact assessment: We support clients by introducing them to a methodology that will clarify and articulate how their organisation will create change, through a model that defines: activities, outputs, outcomes and impacts.   We help clients put in place a social performance monitoring system, including key indicators and reports, that meet management and investor requirements.

The individuals comprising the GEP team have extensive experience of providing investment readiness services to VCSEs and SMEs, including delivering investment and contract readiness services under ICRF, IRF and Big Potential for other advisory firms.  We have also helped deliver business planning for dozens of charities, spin-out social enterprises and mutuals over the past decade.

The GEP team has particular specialism in: affordable housing, financial inclusion, health and social care, education and local economic development.
